The "big picture" concept of physics is that energy exists in the universe in definable amounts and in ways that can be characterized, that this energy can be transfered in ways that can be quantified (forces), and that transfer of this energy results in predictable and quantifiable actions (motion). Physics is all about figuring out the rules that govern energy and its interactions with matter, and then using these rules to make predictions.
