Physics revolves around the broad theme that, "objects can have motion, this motion is caused by forces, and these forces are caused by transfers of energy." Because the activity of forces on things in the world around us, and their motions, are the easiest to see and understand, we lump the rules of these forces and motion into the field of study called mechanics (the "mechanics" of the world around us). Because these rules were first formally stated by Newton, we also call this classical or Newtonian mechanics. This is the focus of the algebra-based AP Physics 1 course.
