Yes, this is Dr. Marshall holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Science urban legend has it that one of the landmark demonstrations of the physics world occured here when Galileo dropped two balls of the same material but of unequal masses from the top of this tower. Both hit the ground at the same time, showing that the acceleration due to gravity is the same for any object, regardless of its mass. Although this probably never happened, Galileo's investigations into the motion of objects formed the basis on which Newton developed the Laws of Motion that are still the conerstone of classical physics today.
