Believe it or not, this is actually an image of my heart! This was obtained by an x-ray technique known as computed axial tomography, better known as a CAT scan. In this form of the technique, x-ray images are collected in a 360 degree circle around the body through the length of the chest cavity. Special computer programs then combine and resconstruct the images into a three dimensional picture that shows the structure in great detail. What other surrounding structures can you identify?
